The Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) assesses intercultural competence—the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities. The Intercultural Development Inventory is a 50-item questionnaire available online that can be completed in 15–20 minutes.
If you are interested in using the IDI as a tool for your team, please submit the Request Form. The assessment can be administered and debriefed for your team by an IDI-Qualified Administrator affiliated with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Consultation Model
- Administer Assessment: An IDI-Qualified Administrator will arrange for the administration of the IDI to all members of a team/organization.
Cost: $25 per person - Individual Debrief (up to 60 minutes): An IDI-Qualified Administrator will conduct a confidential individualized session to review the IDI results and initiate a personal development plan for intercultural competence.
Cost: $150 per person - Group Debrief (1hr): A group debrief includes a group orientation to the IDI, a full debrief of the aggregate assessment outcomes, and a discussion of potential next steps.

The Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory, an 18-item questionnaire, is easy to use, cross-culturally validated assessment of an individual’s approach to communicating, resolving conflicts, and solving problems. The ICS Inventory takes 15 minutes to complete.
By completing the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory, individuals will:
- Increase cultural self-understanding of their own communication and conflict-resolution approach
- Increase cultural other-understanding—of diverse approaches others use to communicate ideas and resolve conflict
- Better manage stress and anxiety that is often present in conflict situations
- Use culturally responsive strategies in communicating your goals and interests to others
- More accurately interpret the statements and actions of the other party
Cost: $20 per person

Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is a critical part of your ability to relate and work effectively with people from different cultural backgrounds and it goes beyond existing notions of cultural sensitivity and awareness. With cultural intelligence, you’ll know how to strategically use cultural differences to come up with more innovative solutions.

Learning Path 1: Building CQ
- CQ Starter: A 10-Minute Introduction to Cultural Intelligence: This short, online session is the ideal way to introduce Cultural Intelligence. Through a combination of videos and interactive activities, participants learn what CQ is, why it matters, and where to go next on their journey toward Cultural Intelligence. While targeted to workplace professionals, the content and activities work equally well with university students.
- CQ Pro Assessment: Measure Cultural Intelligence & Cultural Values: The online CQ Pro Assessment measures participants ability to work and relate across global cultures by measuring skills in four distinct areas. It also includes a valuable analysis of cultural values across ten global clusters. It is the starting point of participants’ CQ journey and gives a benchmark from which to improve participants effectiveness. This assessment comes with a personalized feedback report.
- MyCQ Pro: Understanding My Cultural Intelligence: MyCQ Pro is an engaging and convenient two-hour e-learning that draws on the results of the CQ Pro Assessment and dives into Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and cultural values. This course uses real-world examples of culturally diverse situations to help you develop winning strategies for strengthening your cultural intelligence. This course also gives you a deep understanding of your cultural value preferences and how they influence your approach to life and work. It includes engaging exercises and examples to promote awareness and agility around cultural values.
Learning Path 1 Cost: $150 per person
Learning Path 2: Measure CQ with Observer Feedback
- CQ Starter: A 10-Minute Introduction to CQ: This short, online session is the ideal way to introduce Cultural Intelligence. Through a combination of videos and interactive activities, participants learn what CQ is, why it matters, and where to go next on their journey toward Cultural Intelligence. While targeted to workplace professionals, the content and activities work equally well with university students.
- CQ360: Measure CQ & Cultural Values + Observer Scores: The CQ Pro Assessment measures participants ability to work and relate across global cultures by measuring skills in four distinct areas. It also includes a valuable analysis of your cultural values across ten global clusters. It is the starting point of your CQ journey and gives you a benchmark from which to improve your effectiveness. This assessment comes with a personalized feedback report and allows for 360 feedback from observers.
- MyCQ Pro: Understanding My CQ: MyCQ Pro is an engaging and convenient two-hour e-learning that draws on the results of the CQ Pro Assessment and dives into Cultural Intelligence (CQ) and cultural values. This course uses real-world examples of culturally diverse situations to help you develop winning strategies for strengthening your cultural intelligence. This course also gives you a deep understanding of your cultural value preferences and how they influence your approach to life and work. It includes engaging exercises and examples to promote awareness and agility around cultural values.
Learning Path 2 Cost: $195 per person
Learning Path 3: Continuing CQ Knowledge
- Applying CQ: Using CQ in Everyday Life: After completing Learning Paths 1 or 2, participants can take Learning Path 3 to learn why CQ is valuable for everyday life. This 1-hour course provides real world practice examples, including how CQ can help individuals navigate four common cultural value differences. Participants also complete an action plan for improving and applying CQ.
Learning Path 3 Cost: $75 per person
Learning Path 4: Managing Bias
- Introduction to Managing Bias: Everyone has biases. Learn to manage potentially negative effects of bias through CQ. This 15-minute, interactive e-learning will equip you to: define and describe bias, recognize the benefits of managing bias and finally, the course will introduce CQ as a skill to help manage bias.
- MyUB: Recognize and Manage Bias: Now you can be sure your investment in unconscious bias training will have lasting impact. Based on the world renowned research on cultural intelligence (CQ®), MyUB gives you an 1-hr online tool for interrupting bias in yourself and others. With the science of cultural intelligence as the foundation, MyUB gives you an interactive, online course that provides real life examples and practical strategies for minimizing biased actions and decision-making. Participants will develop the skills to manage bias and learn how to reduce the application of bias in the workplace and beyond.
