Professional development opportunities for diversity, inclusion, and equity are available to all Wake Forest students, staff, and faculty.
Below is a collection of signature educational opportunities. Registering for any of these options will not only contribute to the individual growth of attendees, they may also lead to organizational growth.

Inclusive Excellence Offerings (Synchronous)
This workshop introduces participants to the terms and foundational concepts of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), outlines the parameters and expectations for the certificate program, and provides a brief overview of the value DEI brings to the university. Participants will also make meaning and draw distinctions between diversity, inclusion, and equity, and discuss how each contributes to Inclusive Excellence within the campus community.
Finally, participants will be able to develop and articulate their own commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

Target Audience: Faculty and Staff
This engaging 90-minute virtual workshop prepares department, unit, and organizational leaders to lead diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts using the R.I.D.E. framework as a tool for understanding, shaping, and implementing their area’s commitments to a more inclusive Wake Forest University.
The R.I.D.E. framework is WFU’s guidepost for inclusive excellence. Leaders and those responsible for leading diversity, inclusion, and equity efforts within their organization, department, or unit, should attend and will leave with strong foundational knowledge and a guide to action for implementing R.I.D.E.

Women’s Health 101 is an opportunity for students to learn basic knowledge about ways to advocate for themselves in a healthcare context.
The workshop reviews on-campus and off-campus resources, shares best practices for preventative screenings, and offers tools for self-advocacy. The workshops are dialogic and are led by Wake Forest Medical School students.

In this workshop, participants will delve into the intricate web of intersecting identities such as: race, gender, sexuality, ability, and socioeconomic status, to gain a deeper understanding of lived experiences. Through a combination of self-reflection exercises and group discussions, participants will explore the personal and social impacts of identity, examining how beliefs, biases, and ideas are shaped by socialization and how they influence interactions with others. Finally, participants will explore the ways in which identities intersect and can create unique experiences of privilege and/or marginalization.

This workshop will focus on effective communication strategies and collaboration techniques that promote understanding and inclusivity in both academic and professional settings. Participants will develop the skills and understanding needed to communicate effectively and respectfully across diverse cultural backgrounds. Attendees will explore the impact of culture on communication styles, verbal and nonverbal cues, and interpersonal dynamics.
The session will also address common challenges in cross-cultural communication, gain practical strategies to navigate these challenges, and build bridges of understanding and respect.

The Realizing Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity Core Certificate is a comprehensive program for faculty, staff, and students designed for their involvement with realizing inclusion, diversity, and equity. Through six comprehensive workshops, participants will explore the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, establishing a strong educational foundation for their involvement with the R.I.D.E. framework.
By completing the certificate, individuals will acquire the knowledge, skills, and empathy needed to navigate diverse environments, promote equity, and champion inclusive practices. Empowered with this understanding, participants will be able to actively contribute to cultivating a more inclusive environment within the university community and beyond; embodying Wake Forest University’s commitment to inclusive excellence.

The Intercultural Development Inventory® (IDI®) assesses intercultural competence—the capability to shift cultural perspective and appropriately adapt behavior to cultural differences and commonalities.
The Intercultural Development Inventory is a 50-item questionnaire available online that can be completed in 15–20 minutes.

The Intercultural Conflict Style (ICS) Inventory, an 18-item questionnaire, is easy to use, cross-culturally validated assessment of an individual’s approach to communicating, resolving conflicts, and solving problems. The ICS Inventory takes 15 minutes to complete.
By completing the Intercultural Conflict Style Inventory, individuals will:
- Increase cultural self-understanding of their own communication and conflict-resolution approach
- Increase cultural other-understanding—of diverse approaches others use to communicate ideas and resolve conflict
- Better manage stress and anxiety that is often present in conflict situations
- Use culturally responsive strategies in communicating your goals and interests to others
- More accurately interpret the statements and actions of the other party
